iPhone X and 8: Charge with Fast Charge - all information
The iPhone 8 and iPhone X support Fast Charge. You can use it to charge your smartphone much faster. To use the feature, you need accessories. We show you how Fast Charge works.
Apple Fast Charge: Charge iPhone 8 and iPhone X faster
Apple uses the new USB-C standard for Fast Charge. With the new connection, data can be transferred faster and the battery charged faster. Apple promises to charge 50 percent in just 30 minutes. However, this does not work with the included power supply, which only has an output of 5 watts. In order to use Fast Charge, you need the following accessories:
- An Apple USB-C to Lightning cable. With a length of one meter, the cable costs 24 euros, if you want two meters in length, you have to pay just under 39 euros.
- A USB-C Power Adapter from Apple or a comparable power supply from a third party that supports USB Power Delivery (USB-PD). The Apple adapters are available from 29 euros with 29 watts. You can get a comparable adapter from Amazon for around 25 euros.
Charge iPhone with iPad power adapter faster
- Instead of buying the expensive accessories, you can also charge your iPhone faster with the iPad's 12-watt power supply. You will not achieve the same speed as with Fast Charge, but charging will be noticeably faster. You can reach 39 percent battery charge in half an hour.
- The iPad power supply is available from Apple for 25 euros and you can use it with the standard USB cable.
- When charging wirelessly, you shouldn't rely on cheap third-party devices. Most only manage 20 percent battery in 30 minutes. With the QI charging stations from Mophie and Belkin, you can do 27 percent in 30 minutes.
