Duplicates in creep into iPhoto quickly and are difficult to find. However, they use up unnecessary storage space. We'll show you the easiest way to find them and then remove them.
Find duplicates of iPhoto
The easiest way to find duplicates is with the "Duplicate Cleaner For iPhoto" app. Therefore, download them from the MacAppStore.
- Open iPhoto and wait for the program to load completely. Then you can start the "Duplicate Cleaner" app.
- Wait a moment for the program to recognize iPhoto. This is also signaled to you by a green tick.
- Then click "Next" and select your iPhoto library in the next window. You can usually find them in the "Pictures" folder on your Mac.
- Now the program should automatically search the library for duplicates. It is best not to click around in iPhoto, the program is very susceptible to errors. If an error message appears after waiting for a while, just click "Find Duplicates" again. On the second try, it always works.
- After the program searches your library, all duplicates are displayed in a list.
How to remove the duplicates
- You can select each photo in the list and decide which photo of both you want to keep. The photo you ticked will be deleted.
- Then click on "Move to iPhoto Trashcan" in the lower right corner. The duplicates are moved to the trash in iPhoto.
- You can now close the Duplicate Cleaner app. If you want to permanently delete the duplicates, go to the "Recycle Bin" tab in iPhoto and click on "Empty Recycle Bin" in the top right corner. The photos are then deleted.
