Back up iPod data: Create a backup for iPod Touch
This guide shows you how to back up the data from your iPod Touch and create a backup. You can use both iCloud and iTunes for this - we will introduce you to both methods.
iPod Touch: Create backup via iCloud
The easiest way to back up your data on iPod Touch wirelessly is via iCloud:
- To do this, open the "Settings" and select "iCloud". You can select all data from which a backup copy should be made.
- You can activate the backup under "Storage & Backup".
- A backup copy of your device is created with a tap on "Create backup now". You can use the iOS setup wizard to restore the backup if you reset your iPod Touch or data is lost.

iPod Touch: Create backup via iTunes
You can also back up your iPod Touch using iTunes. For this you need the latest version of iTunes, which you can find free of charge in the CHIP download area.
- Connect your iPod Touch to your PC with the supplied USB cable, on which iTunes is already installed.
- Your device is automatically recognized by iTunes. In the overview window you can create a backup of your iPod Touch using the "Back up now" option.
- Every time you synchronize your device with iTunes, a backup is automatically created.
- Your backup will also be restored via iTunes. Use the menu item "Restore from backup" in the overview.
