Switch on iPod Disk Mode - how it works
If you want to use your iPod as a mobile hard drive or to solve a specific problem, you must switch on the Disk Mode. We'll show you how it's done.
iPod Classic: Switch on disk mode
- Slide the "Hold" switch back and forth on the top of the iPod so that the device is locked and then unlocked again.
- Keep the two buttons "Menu" and "Select" pressed until the Apple logo appears.
- Now immediately press "Select" and "Play / Pause" until the hard disk mode appears on the screen.
iPod nano: Activate Disk Mode
- 7th generation: Press and hold the "Standby" and "Home" buttons until the Apple logo appears. Now press and hold the "Volume down" and "Volume up" buttons until the hard disk mode is activated.
- 6th generation: Hold down the "Standby" and "Volume down" buttons until the Apple logo appears. Now press and hold the "Volume down" and "Volume up" buttons until the hard disk mode is activated.
Older iPod models: Switch on disk mode
- Slide the "Hold" switch back and forth on the top of the iPod so that the device is locked and then unlocked again.
- Keep the two buttons "Menu" and "Play" pressed until the Apple logo appears.
- Now immediately press "Previous track" and "Next track" until the hard disk mode appears on the screen.
