iPod hangs - what to do?
When your iPod, iPhone or iPad hangs up, the horror is great. But usually the problem can be solved relatively quickly. We show how.
Troubleshooting: iPhone, iPad or iPod touch hangs
- End app: If an app stops responding, press and hold the home button for six seconds. Now the opened app ends and you get to the home screen.
- Turn off: Nothing works anymore, turn your iPod off completely and restart it. To do this, hold down the standby button on the top of the device and slide the switch off from left to right. Then restart the device.
- Reset: If none of this works, you have to perform a reset. The device is also restarted. Press and hold the home button and standby button until the Apple logo appears.
- If none of the procedures work, you can wait until the battery is empty. Then the device switches off automatically and can be restarted with power.
- If this takes too long, you can restore it via iTunes. Here, the device is reset to the delivery state. However, all settings and data are initially lost. You can then restore the device from the last backup. Read here how it works with the iPhone.
Reset options for classic iPod models
There are also reset options for small iPod models such as iPod nano, classic or shuffle:
- iPod nano: Press and hold the standby and quiet button for a few seconds.
- iPod classic: Slide the hold switch back and forth and then press the menu and selection button at the same time.
- The iTunes restore mentioned above also works for these models.
This practical tip tells you what you can do if your Apple device can no longer be switched on.
