Restore iPod - Here's how
Your iPod only does what it wants? In contrast, the so-called "restore" can help - that is, resetting to the factory settings. We show you exactly how such a reset works for the iPod.
Here's how to reset your iPod
- Open iTunes and connect iPod to your PC or Mac with a USB cable.
- ITunes will recognize the device after a few seconds. You will also find the "Restore" button in the "Overview" menu below the general information.
- This will reset the iPod to the factory settings - so delete all songs at the same time. If you click this, a progress bar shows you the current status of the restoration.
- For old iPod models, you will then be asked to connect the iPod to the power adapter. For newer models, there is a second recovery phase: this is complete when you are asked to rename your iPod.
- Now all you have to do is transfer your favorite songs back to the iPod.
The instructions refer to the iPod, iPod classic, iPod mini and iPod nano. With iPod Shuffle, you can still select various recovery options, such as the automatic update to the latest software version.
