Activate IPv6 address - how it works
The IPv6 standard is currently replacing the well-known IPv4 address. We will show you how to activate the IPv6 address on your PC or Mac.
Activate the IPv6 address on the Windows PC
Note: We will explain what exactly is called "IPv6". Here we show you how to activate the standard:
- Open the Control Panel and click on "Network and Sharing Center" in the "Network and Internet" category.
- Under "Connections", click on the network you are currently connected to to activate IPv6.
- Click on "Properties".
- Scroll down to "Internet Protocol, Version 6" in the list and check the box.
- Click "OK" to save the setting.
Enable IPv6 address on Mac
With Mac, you can easily activate and deactivate IPv6 via the terminal:
- Open the terminal.
- Enter the command "networksetup -setv6automatic Wi-Fi" to activate IPv6 for a WLAN network. If you are using a LAN connection, enter the command "networksetup -setv6automatic Ethernet".
- To switch IPv6 off again, use the command "networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi" or "networksetup -setv6off Ethernet".
