Setting up IPv6: how it works
IPv6 is the latest technology when it comes to network communication. Find out here how you can set up IPv6 and benefit from the numerous innovations.
Setting up IPv6 - you should note that
Just follow the tips below to make the switch to IPv6 work for you:
- There is currently a switch from the IPv4 protocol to IPv6. All providers are working on being able to use the new technology soon.
- An exact start date, when IPv6 will be available for everyone, is unfortunately not known.
- In general, when buying the router, you should make sure that it is IPv6 compatible. This should be clearly visible on the packaging of the router.
- Other network devices such as repeaters or switches (OSI Layer 1 or OSI Layer2) are irrelevant for this change and do not have to be replaced.
- In the same way, this also doesn't matter for LAN cables.
- You don't have to do anything to use IPv6. The settings are made automatically by your provider as soon as they are available.
- All operating systems are already IPv6 compatible, which is why you do not have to make any settings here either.
- Your provider will inform you in good time when you can use this technology and what specific advantages there are.
