Encrypt IRC - Here's how
To chat not only anonymously but also securely in the IRC, you should encrypt it. Our instructions show you which tools you need and how to encrypt the chat.
Encrypt IRC - what you and your chat partner need:
Chat partners and you need the following tools:
- mIRC is one of the best known IRC programs.
- FiSH is a freely available encryption script.
Step 1: Install the FiSH encryption script
To encrypt your IRC, install FiSH in the mIRC:
- First, make sure that mIRC does not connect when it starts up. Close the mIRC completely.
- Download the latest version of FiSH as ".ZIP" from the Syndicate website.
- Unzip the .ZIP file and rename the "blow.ini-Example" file to "blow.ini".
- In the unzipped folder, copy all files and paste everything into the mIRC installation directory.
- Now you can install the script by entering the following code in mIRC: "// load -rs $ qt ($ nofile ($ mircexe) $ + fish_10.mrc)". Then confirm the installation.
- If an error message now appears, you can find solutions on the FiSH Git-Hub page.
Use of the encrypted IRC
After installing FiSH you can now use it conveniently:
- Connect to a server and right-click on the chat area to open the FiSH menu.
- Then set your password with "Set New Key". Everyone in the channel who wants to communicate with you also sets this password. In our video we show what you have to pay attention to when choosing a password.
- Now you write encrypted. To send unencrypted messages in between, use the prefix "+ p".
