IrfanView Thumbnails: This is how the image preview works
For an improved overview in larger image collections, IrfanView offers a practical thumbnails view. We show you how to start the image preview and what you can do with it.
How to use IrfanView's thumbnails view
You can access the thumbnails view by pressing the [T] key in IrfanView. Alternatively, click "File" in the menu bar and then "Thumbnails". The image preview opens in a new window without the IrfanView program window being closed.
- In the two-part window, the left side shows an overview of the existing drives and directories. On the right side, the images of the selected folder appear as small preview images.
- Double-click on a thumbnail to open the respective image directly in IrfanView. You can view it there in full screen mode or edit it further.
- Many other functions are available in the image preview. You can access this via the menu bar or by right-clicking on the thumbnails. For example, you can adjust the size of the preview images to your requirements, change the sorting or start a slideshow with selected images.
- However, the thumbnails view is not only suitable for viewing pictures: With the corresponding functions, you can also copy, move or delete pictures and convert individual or several selected files into other formats at the same time.
In our next practical tip, we will explain how to compress images with IrfanView and thus save space.
