ISDN shutdown 2018: you need to know
The ISDN network is to be switched off by the end of 2018. You can find out what you need to consider here in this practical tip.
ISDN shutdown 2018: you need to know
Telekom has already started to switch off the ISDN network. Instead, digital IP transmission technology is now used.
- As a result of the changeover, all data (including television) can be transmitted via an IP-based connection in the future. "Voice over IP" can now be used instead of analogue calls.
- If there is only one line for everything, there is no longer any need to build bridges between the lines and new services can be introduced more easily with IP-based connections.
- But private individuals also benefit from the switch: Annoying additional devices such as NTBA and splitters no longer have to be connected: a router is sufficient for all purposes.
- However, it may be that your previous ISDN contract is no longer continued and you are offered a replacement instead. If necessary, new devices such as a new router may also be required. In general, your previous router should work the same way, you just have to remove NTBA and splitter.
- It could be a little more problematic for companies: Large companies usually have a complex and sophisticated internal network. Here, some devices have to be converted to the IP-based connection.
