ISDN: You need to know this about the shutdown
The Deutsche Telekom ISDN lines will be switched off by the end of 2018. The nationwide switch to IP telephony is a technical revolution and has many advantages.
ISDN shutdown: Now comes All-IP
The ISDN technology is independent of the Internet and is operated via a separate connection in the house.
- When switching to so-called IP telephony (IP = Internet Protocol), the telephone connection with the Internet is combined and thus forms a new transmission standard.
- Thanks to the new IP telephony, your telephone connection can be moved to a cloud and is therefore location-independent. You can use your telephone connection from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.
- The changeover is unavoidable and should be applied across the board.
What you need to know about the changeover
The switch will be implemented by all telephone providers over the next few years. After you have been informed by your provider about your changeover date, you should take care of the ALL-IP capability of your devices.
- If you import your telephone connection into the cloud with ALL-IP telephony, you will only need a device with a stable internet connection in the future. So you don't necessarily have to buy new telephony devices, you only have the cost of using the cloud.
- If ALL-IP compatible, you can also continue to use your old telephony devices with the new connection.
- ALL-IP technology brings many new technical possibilities. For example, it is possible to use several voice channels on one connection.
