Want to burn ISOs on Mac? Are you looking for a burning program to download? Do you even need software for this?
Macs and MacBooks burn ISO files with on-board resources
You can burn ISO files on Mac easily using on-board tools. You do not need any additional software for this:
- Start the disk utility. You can find this either in the Finder under Programs - Utilities or very easily via Spotlight by clicking the magnifying glass in the top right corner of the desktop and simply entering "fixed".
- In the disk utility you can now drag an ISO file from the Finder to the list of drives on the left and then click "Burn". Or you can click "Burn" first and then select the ISO file in the file dialog.
- If you do not have a (suitable) medium in the drive, you will be asked to insert one. Then the burning starts.
After burning, MacOS checks the data that was written on the blank. If you don't want this because it takes too long, you can switch it off in the advanced options. You will find this in the burning dialog behind the small arrow. In the screenshot, the advanced options are already opened.
Free burning programs for Mac
If you still want a program to burn CDs or DVDs, you have a lot of options:
- Check out the free burn. It also runs on older Macs down to Mac OS X 10.3.9.
- LiquidCD is also free.
- Disco is no longer being developed. But it is also available for free download.
Paid software doesn't have to be better
You can also spend a lot of money to purchase "Roxio Toast". This is the top dog among the commercial programs on the Mac. In the price comparison you can see that a certain investment is required.
