A downloaded ISO file can often not be easily deleted from the hard disk. If you try to delete it, you will see that the file is in use, although it is not. We explain how to get the ISO back from your hard drive.
Permanently delete ISO file disk image file
Download the Unlocker program and install it.
- Start the program. The "Search for files or folders" window opens. Click on the location on your hard drive where the ISO file to be deleted cannot be deleted.
- Select the file by clicking on it once.
- Often the unlocker now reports that no release handle was found.
- Then select "Delete" under "No action" and click "OK".
- Sometimes an "error" appears and you are informed that the file has not been deleted. You will be asked whether the file should be deleted the next time you restart. Confirm with "Yes".
- The file is deleted after the next restart. The restart may take a little longer than usual due to the deletion process
Alternatively, you can also use the LockHunter. Also read if ISO files can be burned without installing them.
