Is it dangerous to make a phone call during a thunderstorm? You have to know that
What should and should not be done during a thunderstorm is why there are numerous myths. In this article, we will tell you whether calling during a thunderstorm is really dangerous.
Telephoning during a thunderstorm: good or bad idea?
Some people wonder not only whether you can take a shower during a thunderstorm or whether e-cars can also drive during a thunderstorm, but whether telephoning is also a danger. This question can be answered with a very clear yes and no.
- Calling with a cell phone is completely safe in the event of a thunderstorm. Whether you hold a piece of wood or a piece of metal to your head makes no difference for a flash.
- The radiation emitted by the cell phone during a call also has no effect on a flash. The electromagnetic waves are far too weak for that.
- On the other hand, it looks different when making calls in the house. A lightning strike could pass over to the phone line and give you an electric shock. However, the electric shock would be very weak, harmless and would only occur with old corded phones.
- However, there is a much more realistic risk with above-ground telephone lines. In Germany, however, these are no longer to be found. In this case, too, the danger for the telephone would be greater than for yourself.
