iTunes: give books away - how it works

In iTunes you can not only give away music, but also books or eBooks. We show you how it works on iPhone and iPad as well as on the computer.

Give books away on PC via iTunes

Open iTunes and click the "iTunes Store" in the top right corner. Enter the title of the book in the search and select the right book.
On the left side you can see the price under the book cover. Click on the arrow to the right and select the option "Give away a book" in the drop-down menu (see picture).
If you have not yet specified a payment method such as American Express, Visa or Mastercard in your iTunes account, you must now select a new payment method.
After the payment process, you will be redirected to the gift website: Enter the recipient's email address / Apple ID, their name and, optionally, a short message. You can also choose whether the gift should be given immediately or on a specific day.
You can then select a motif for the digital gift card and use the "Buy gift" button to complete the eBook purchase.

The free iBooks app is a prerequisite for buying a book on iTunes. Even if you just want to give the book away as a gift, you have to install the app first.
Once you have selected the book in iBooks, tap the "Send" icon in the menu bar at the top right.
Then select the "Give away" option and sign in with your Apple ID and password.
Once the purchase is complete, only the recipient's data is required. Enter his email address / Apple ID, name and optionally a greeting message. You can also choose whether the gift should be delivered immediately or on a specific day.
Then select another card motif and press "Buy"> "Buy Now".
