When backing up iPad / iPhone with iTunes, the backup is stored somewhere on the hard drive, but not yet backed up externally. If the PC causes problems, your backup is also at risk. For an additional data backup, save the backup created by iTunes on a separate data medium.
iTunes backup: make an external backup
- The data is hidden in a subfolder of your application data. To open it, start Windows Explorer, enter "% Appdata%" in the address bar and press Enter.
- Now navigate further to the subfolder "Apple Computer \ MobileSync \ Backup". There is a cryptically named file folder for every iTunes data backup, which contains all the data of the respective backup.
- Copy these entire folders to an external drive for archiving. When playing back, you may need to remove the write protection from the folder.
