Restore iTunes library - how it works
If there are any errors with your iTunes library, you will need to restore the database. However, this only works if you have previously copied your library to another. In this article, we will tell you how to create such a backup and how to import your data back into iTunes.
Restore iTunes library from backup
You can only restore your library if you have previously merged it in iTunes and saved it to an external storage medium. If you have not created such a backup of your media library, you cannot retrieve your music in the event of data loss. With the appropriate backup, however, it works relatively quickly:
- Close iTunes and all other Apple programs on your computer.
- Then find the folder of your backed up iTunes database and copy it to the location of your iTunes library. By default, this is in the path "C: / User / Username / My Music". Replace the "Username" section with your current username.
- Start iTunes and hold down the [Shift] key.
- A window appears asking you to search for your media library. Click on "Select" and navigate in the file browser to the folder you just copied.
- When you click "Ok", iTunes takes over your restored database.
