Fix iTunes error 11 - Here's how
If error 11 occurs in iTunes, the update or restore has failed. We'll show you how to fix it.
Fix iTunes error 11 in 5 steps
Error 11 indicates a blocked connection to the Apple server. You can release them again in different ways:
- Update: First, check if an update for iTunes is available. If so, download and install the latest version. You can find instructions in this practical tip.
- USB: Plug the USB cable to your iDevice into another USB input on your computer. If that doesn't help, change the cable.
- DFU: Boot your iOS device in DFU mode and restart the recovery. Problems with iTunes are usually hidden here.
- Host file: This file contains all blocked connections. If you find a line with the keyword "Apple", delete it completely. Here you will find instructions on how to open and edit the host file.
- Firewall: The firewall can also block your connections. Ports 60, 80 and 443 and the address "gs.apple.com" must not be blocked.
iTunes: Download and install firmware manually
If the problem is with the connection to Apple's servers, download the current firmware manually:
- The downloads for all iPads, iPhones and for iPod touch can be found in this CHIP article.
- Open the overview of the iOS device in iTunes and hold the Shift key on the keyboard while clicking the "Check for updates" button with the mouse.
- Then a small window opens in which you can select the firmware. iTunes then installs the software on your iPhone or iPad.
In the next practical tip, we will tell you how to completely remove iTunes and then reinstall it without errors.
