iTunes: Convert Movies - Here's how
If you cannot play your videos and films from iTunes on your iPhone or iPad, you have to convert the films beforehand. We'll show you how it's done.
Convert iTunes movies with external software
Note: Apparently you can no longer convert movies in the latest iTunes versions or in any other way. Apple has not yet updated its instructions.
- It is best to use external software until the function is available again.
- With the free "Freemake Video Converter" you can convert your iTunes movies into other formats.
Convert movies directly to iTunes
You can also use iTunes to convert existing movie files so that you can play them on your Apple devices like the iPhone. Just follow these steps:
- Open iTunes and import the movie you want. To do this, click on the "File" in the menu on the Mac, and under Windows press the key combination [Ctrl] + [O].
- Mac: Select the video with the mouse and click on "Create new version" at the top of the clipboard and select the option "Create version for iPod or iPhone".
- Windows: Click on the video and select the option "Create version for iPod or iPhone" under "File" and "New" in the menu bar.
- When the conversion is complete, iTunes creates a copy of the movie in your iTunes library. Two films with the same name will then be listed there. The MPEG-4 video file is the new file compatible with your iPad or iPhone.
- Note: If the film already has a compatible format, the respective conversion functions are not available.
