iTunes: Creating a Smart Playlist - Instructions
In iTunes, you can create smart playlists in addition to regular playlists. We show you how this works in this practical tip.
Create smart playlist in iTunes
- Open your iTunes music database as usual.
- Click on the plus symbol in the lower left corner.
- Then select "Create new playlist" from the dropdown menu.
- You can now start creating the smart playlist.
Configure smart playlist
Intelligent playlists have been part of iTunes for a long time and the function has also been improved and developed more and more.
- First, you should set how long the playlist will be in the window and whether it should update itself automatically.
- Now you can start with the actual work: the intelligent song selection.
- You have a large selection of criteria in the various dropdown menus. You can also add many other criteria to the list by clicking the plus icon on the left.
- So you can easily compile a playlist according to your wishes. There are no limits to your imagination.
Smart playlist example
As an example, we want an intelligent playlist that shows us all the unplayed and new songs from the past two weeks.
- First select "Added within the last 2 weeks".
- Next, select the "Playback is 0" item to display only unplayed songs.
- Add the item "Media type is music" to exclude podcasts and films.
- If necessary, change the number of songs and determine whether the playlist should be updated automatically.
- With a click on "OK" you can save the settings and the playlist is created.
