iTunes songs are gray - you can do that
If your iTunes songs have a gray background, there can be various reasons. In this guide, we show you what you can do in such a case.
All iTunes songs have a gray background
If all iTunes songs are grayed out, you can no longer play them. Usually the reason is synchronization.
- Start iTunes.
- Click "iTunes" on Mac OS or "Edit" on Windows.
- Select the settings and then click on "Devices".
- Click the check box in front of "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically".
- Click "Ok" and restart iTunes.
- Next, download the latest version of iTunes and uncheck the box again. Now you can play all songs and they will also be synchronized with your devices again.
Individual iTunes songs have a gray background
Sometimes iTunes only shows individual songs in gray, which you can then no longer play. This is because iTunes cannot find the link to the song files. You may have moved this. In this case, follow the steps below.
- Start iTunes.
- Click "File" on Mac OS or "File" on Windows.
- In the following window, select the file, click on it and then confirm with "Ok".
- If necessary, restart iTunes.
