Moving iTunes library - this is what you should pay attention to
To move the iTunes library to another location, just a few small steps are necessary. Please note that iTunes always has access to the media library and there is enough free space available. For example, do not move the media library to external storage media, such as USB sticks or hard drives.
Move iTunes library
- Make sure iTunes is closed and not running.
- Copy the media library, ie the "iTunes" folder, to the new location of your choice.
- Now start iTunes.
- Go to the settings of iTunes (see picture).
- Under the "Advanced" tab, click "Change" to the right of the "iTunes Media location" menu item.
- Now select your new storage location. Specify the "iTunes Media" subfolder and not the "iTunes" main folder.
- After confirming the path, you can delete the media library in the old location.
This guide applies to iTunes 11 on Windows.
