If you have problems with iTunes, reinstalling the service can help. Instructions for reinstallation on PC and Mac OS can be found here in this practical tip.
PC: Reinstall iTunes on Windows
Below we explain step by step how to reinstall iTunes on your Windows PC:
- We recommend the Revo Uninstaller tool for complete uninstallation. Download it to your PC and then start it.
- Look for the "iTunes" installation in the list and double click on it.
- Then select "Advanced" as the method. This automatically removes any remaining folders and files.
- Click through the wizard. Make sure that after the normal uninstallation you have marked the remaining files and folders as well as registry entries and deleted them with "Delete".
- You can then download the latest version of iTunes from the download portal.
- Then install the program as usual.
Mac: reinstall iTunes - so it'll work
- Start Finder and look for the iTunes folder.
- Then drag this folder into the trash and empty it by right-clicking on it and choosing "Empty".
- Then call up the activity display from the Finder. Search for "iTunes helper" here and highlight it. Then click on "Quit Process" above.
- Then go to the "Library / preferences" folder on your hard drive and remove all objects that begin with "com.apple.itunes". Finally, you should restart the Mac.
- Now you can download the latest version of iTunes for your Mac and install it as usual.
