iTunes store error: "Your request could not be completed" - what to do?
"Your request could not be completed" is a common iTunes store error. In this practical tip we will show you how to find the cause and how to fix the problem.
Clear the iTunes cache to fix the error
The first and easiest way is to clear iTunes cache:
- Open the "Finder" on your Mac.
- Click on "Go" in the menu.
- In the drop-down menu, hold down the [Alt] key and select the sub-item »Library«.
- In the window that opens, you will find, among other things, the "Caches" folder. Drag its contents (not the folder itself) to the trash.
- Now empty the trash.
Delete iTunes settings files against the error message
If you still get the error message "Your request could not be completed" after clearing the cache, you can also delete the settings files.
- To do this, open the »Library« in the "Finder" again. To do this, follow steps 1-3 above.
- Open the "Preferences" folder in the library.
- Move all files to the trash that start with "com.apple.iTunes". Then you have to empty the trash again.
Reset Safari to fix iTunes error
If the above options have not worked, you only have the option to reset Safari:
- First close iTunes with [cmd] + [Q].
- In the Safari menu, select "Reset Safari ..."
- Here you should have checked as many points as possible to increase the likelihood of success.
- Now click on "Reset".
- You can then open iTunes again and log in with your user name. The error "Your request could not be completed" should no longer occur.
The instructions refer to the Mac OS X version of iTunes. In addition to these error messages, there are some other error codes that iTunes can spit out: such as Error 21 or Error 42110 - how to fix them, read the related articles.
