The jailbreak with the Chinese pangu hack also works with iOS 7.1.2. We explain how exactly in this manual.
Jailbreak iOS 7.1.2 - how it works
- Before you start, you should definitely make a backup of your iPhone. Be aware that the use of a jailbreak is always at your own risk.
- Once you have saved all your data and purchases, download the Pangu Jailbreak for iOS 7.1 and 7.1.x to your computer.
- Install and start Pangu after the download. Then connect your iPhone to the PC. The top line shows the model number of the connected iOS device.
- A little further down you may see a check mark in a checkbox. That means Pangu installs a tool called PP25. This tool enables apps to be installed directly on the iPhone. If you only want to install the jailbreak, remove the check mark. We recommend not to install the tool as well, so as not to tear another security hole in the iOS. Incidentally, newer versions of the Pangu jailbreak no longer include this option.
- The black button to the right of the model number starts the jailbreak. Do not click on it yet! Important: Did you really make a backup? If you have not yet taken this step, you should definitely do so.
- Now take your iPhone and open the settings. Navigate to "General -> Date & Time" and switch off "Set automatically". Since Pangu is using an already expired certificate for the jailbreak, you must reset the date to June 2, 2014. Set the time to 8:30 p.m.
- Switch back to the calculator and Pangu. If you click on the black button next to the model number, the jailbreak starts. If you see an image on iPhone that shows a hand pointing to the Settings icon, the date is incorrect. In this case, check whether you have carried out step 6 correctly.
- If everything is correct, the jailbreak starts. Now you have to wait. Keep an eye on the screen of your iPhone. When the jailbreak is complete, the pangu icon should appear as an app. Important: Keep your iPhone connected.
- If you tap the Pangu icon now, a warning will appear, which you must confirm to continue. The progress bar in the Pangu program should continue. Don't be surprised that your iPhone restarts twice, that's normal.
- It takes a few minutes for the whole process to go through. At the end, the icon of the Cydia app - the alternative app store - should appear.
- The first start of Cydia can take a little time. Your iPhone will also likely restart. However, both processes are normal.
Instructions on how Cydia works can be found in a separate practical tip.
