You need Java for many PC programs. Therefore, you should always have the latest version installed. If you encounter error code 1638 during installation, you cannot continue with it at first. In this practical tip, we will show you how to fix the problem and completely reinstall Java.
Java error 1638 - how to fix it
This error message 1638 from Java states that a version of Java already exists on the PC. Java can therefore not run the setup, which is why you must first remove the "old" version:
- To do this, go to "Control Panel" and double-click "Java" in the "Programs and Features" category. You can find detailed instructions in the video below.
- Wait for the uninstallation process to finish and then start the Java installation again.
- Make sure that you run the installer with administrator rights. To do this, right-click on the EXE file and select "Run as administrator".
- Finally, follow the on-screen instructions to install Java.
