In order to use the Java plugin with Firefox, it must of course be installed and activated. Here you can read how to do this and what you have to watch out for.
Install / update Java
The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) must be installed so that Java content such as games or web applications can be displayed in your browser.
- The software manufacturer Oracle has set up a special page with which you can determine whether you have already installed Java. After calling up the page, a short test starts automatically (confirm the security question with the "Execute" button). A few seconds later you will see whether the recommended Java version is installed.
- If Java is missing on your computer or if you want to install a newer version, you can download the current Java Runtime Environment here. Attention: The linked Java version is for 32-bit systems. First, check whether your computer is running a 32- or 64-bit system.
Enable Java in Firefox
When you install Java, it is usually automatically activated in Firefox. If Java still does not work, check whether the Java plug-in is actually switched on in Firefox.
- First click on the orange "Firefox" button in the top left of the browser and then select "Add-ons Manager" and select "Plug-ins".
- Note: In the new Firefox 29 you will find the menu item "Settings" by clicking on the three horizontal bars in the top right.
- In the new window, switch to the "Plugins" area. If the "Java (TM) Platform" plugin is deactivated, you will find the corresponding note next to the name of the plugin. In this case, click the "Activate" button.
- Reload the page.
