Even though Java and JavaScript have a similar name, there are numerous differences between the two terms. We will clarify and show what is actually behind the names.
Difference between Java and JavaScript
Basically, Java and JavaScript don't have much to do with each other. The similar terms only came about through the cooperation of two companies.
- Java is a programming language: it creates applications that run in browsers and on computers. In order to start such programs, you have to install the Java Runtime Environment on your computer. Java can be compared a little with the Flash Player: It is absolutely necessary to play Flash content like videos in the browser.
- JavaScript is a scripting language: JavaScript is mainly used to create interactive content for websites. For example, if you fill out a form on a website, all you have to do is work with the JavaScript and submit the form. It is not necessary to reload the website.
JavaScript and Java in practice
- You can optionally activate and deactivate the JavaScript.
- You can also turn Java on and off on iPhone.
- Since Java always causes problems for many users, you can reinstall it if necessary.
