jDownloader: CRC error - you can do that
When downloading file archives with JDownloader, CRC errors can occur in rare cases. In this practical tip, we will explain what this is all about and how you can solve the problem.
How to fix CRC errors in JDownloader
CRC errors indicate that the downloaded files are corrupt. Archives, such as ZIP or RAR files, can then only be partially or no longer unpacked. There are a number of possible causes for the error, so you should try all approaches step by step.
- Update the JDownloader to the latest program version. Also update the Java Runtime Environment on your PC.
- Limit the download speed in JDownloader so that you do not use the full available bandwidth of your internet connection. You will find the corresponding function if you first click on "Settings" in the menu bar in JDownloader, then check the "Speed limit" box and enter the corresponding value.
- In the same place, reduce the values for "Max. Connections per download", "Max. Simultaneous downloads" and "Max. Simultaneous downloads per hoster" to "1".
- If you use the "Archive Extractor" of the JDownloader and the CRC error only occurs when the downloaded files are automatically extracted, you should deactivate the function in the "Settings". To do this, it is sufficient to remove the tick from the corresponding option.
- Switch off your virus scanner and firewall as a test and check whether the CRC errors then no longer occur. If this is the case, you have to create corresponding exclusion rules for the JDownloader. To do this, add the following files to the exception list of your security software: JDownloader.exe, JDownloader.jar, JDownloaderBETA.exe, JDownloaderD3D.exe, JDownloaderPortable.exe, JDUpdate.exe
CRC error in JDownloader - further solutions
- Make sure that the hard drive to which you are downloading the files has enough free space.
- Check your hard drive for errors, such as with the Windows Chkdsk function. It can also help defragment the hard drive.
- A faulty working memory can also damage the files during the download. You can find out whether this is the case with the freeware MemTest. If errors are found, you have to replace the affected RAM latch.
- If your internet connection is not working properly, this can also result in CRC errors. A restart of the computer or router, for example, could then solve the problem. More solutions can be found here.
CRC error on the last packet - and now?
If you have a large number of archives loaded and a CRC error occurs, you don't necessarily have to download everything again.
- Start the last download of the last package again by right-clicking and clicking "Reset".
- If there is still a CRC error, you can download the files individually from the browser overview. To do this, click on "Settings" and "Open in browser".
If the error persists, you can also try another download manager. We have put together some good alternatives for you in the next article.
