Fridge hums loudly - what to do?
If the refrigerator buzzes loudly, it can be very annoying. With a few simple steps, you can often significantly reduce the volume of your household appliance. We show you how to remedy the situation.
Reduce the volume of the humming refrigerator
The main causes of buzzing refrigerators are diverse:
- Fridges often make loud noises when they are not straight. Check this with a spirit level and move the refrigerator straight if necessary. If that doesn't help, put some paper under one foot to compensate. The hum should then stop.
- Another reason could be that the refrigerator door is not closed properly or that the sealing rubber of the refrigerator door has become porous over time. Then it is time to replace the door seal. You can often tell whether the door is closed properly by putting a flashlight in the fridge and closing the door again. If the light goes outside, you have to act.
- Check whether the kitchen appliance is perhaps too close to the wall. The distance of the refrigerator from the wall should be about ten centimeters.
- Defrosting the refrigerator is a chore. However, strong icing could also be the reason for the background noise, since the compressor also starts up much more frequently when the freezer compartments are iced up.
- If none of the measures lead to the desired success, it could also be that the refrigerator is defective or too old.
