Coffee beans: The best varieties at a glance
There are numerous types of coffee beans. Arabica and Robusta are particularly well known in this country. Which is the best variety is of course a matter of taste. In this household tip, we present some types of coffee beans.
Coffee beans - an overview of the most popular varieties
There are more than 100 different types of coffee. They have to find their personal favorites by trying them out.
- Two different types of coffee are the basis for the different types of coffee in Germany: Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora. The latter is best known for its subspecies robusta. Most types of coffee are made from these two types of coffee.
- Coffee varieties with Arabica beans are very popular. This is certainly due to the fine, slightly fruity and mild aroma of the bean and its relatively low caffeine content. These coffee beans are usually a bit more expensive because they are difficult to grow and harvest.
- Robusta coffee beans also have their lovers. These coffee beans have a stronger taste, but are also somewhat bitter.
- There is also an intersection called Arabusta. The taste is a mixture of the strong Robusta and the fine Arabica aroma.
- The Liberica coffee bean variety is less well known. These beans are more bitter than arabica and have an intense, slightly nutty aroma. This variety contains a lot of caffeine.
- Another type of coffee is Excelsa with a very strong and earthy taste. This coffee bean is quite rare and only makes up one percent of the world's coffee production. Perhaps this is because the taste takes some getting used to.
- Just as there is a cross between Robusta and Arabica, there is also a cross between Liberica and Arabica coffee. This variety is called Maragogype. The beans are very mild and also low in caffeine and acid. This makes this type of coffee particularly digestible.
