If your camera microphone is noisy, it is usually not the microphone itself, but the combination of camera and microphone. We'll show you how to solve the problem and optimize your recording.
Camera microphone is rustling - what am I doing wrong?
First: there is always a slight background noise. The perfect sound without noise is only possible with editing.
- If the speaker is close to the microphone, the noise is usually very weak. If you are several meters away from the microphone, the noise begins.
- The noise problem is particularly noticeable in many DLSR cameras. If you use the microphone directly on the DLSR camera, there is always a larger background noise.
- If the noise cannot be removed at all, you can still edit it later. With free programs like Audacity you can remove the noise and then improve the voice. This is also possible with Samplitude.
Camera microphone hisses - these tips help
- To reduce the noise to a minimum, you should get as close as possible to the microphone. The further you go, the louder the noise on the recording.
- Especially if you use the microphone directly on the camera, you have to pay special attention to the distance. But external microphones also improve the quality. You should consider these tips when purchasing.
- A noise-free sound works best with a separate recording device. These record the sound much more clearly and thus achieve better results without noise. Good recording devices include the inexpensive Zoom H1 and the slightly better H4N.
- If you don't want to buy a recording device right away, a clip-on microphone comes close to the quality. For example the Rode smartLav, which you can also connect to your smartphone.
