If the newly purchased camera does not meet your requirements, you should return the device as soon as possible - provided the seller accepts this. We show what you need to consider for a smooth exchange.
Send the digital camera back to the online shop
If you have bought an electronic device online, the dealer must in principle grant you a 14-day right of return. However, it is important that the product is in new condition.
- A new condition does not mean that the camera still has to be welded in or provided with protective films. However, there must be no scratches or other signs of wear on the device.
- If there are already images on the camera, the exchange can be difficult. Therefore, format the memory card and reset the camera to the factory settings.
- If possible, pack the device as you received it and include all accessories.
- Print out the return receipt and the shipping label and bring the finished package to the post office. Whether you have to pay for the return shipping depends on the retailer. Most of the time, however, the costs are borne.
Return camera on goodwill in the store
If you bought the digital camera in a local technology shop, the legal situation is different: the seller does not have to take the device back, even if the condition is still perfect.
- Nevertheless, you can hope for goodwill from the retailer: some large chains such as Media Markt accept a return within 14 days.
- Here, too, the camera must be in perfect condition. In addition, the receipt must not be missing.
- In small shops in particular, the tone is what makes the music. With a polite demeanor, your chances of taking the item back increase significantly. After all, the question of goodwill lies solely with the seller.
