Karaoke for Wii U: Great singing games compared
Karaoke games are still very popular. There are also great singing games for the Wii U, which we will introduce to you in our comparison.
The classic variant: SiNG Party for Wii U
"SiNG PARTY" is a classic party karaoke game that strongly reminds of "Singstar" on PlayStation.
- In party mode, a player grabs the microphone and GamePad and reads the lyrics from the GamePad screen. This way, you don't have to turn to the TV, you can sing and chat to your friends in the living room. The other players receive their own singing and dancing instructions from the television, which they can follow.
- Sing mode, on the other hand, works classically: Here the lyrics are displayed on the television. As with "Singstar", the game evaluates your vocals based on pitch and volume. You can sing alone or in a duet and compare your personal high scores at the end of the song. Viewers can use the Wii U GamePad to intervene and create a playlist during the songs. You can also activate "A Cappella deposits" with the GamePad.
- Included are pop songs like "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen or "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz, but also classics like "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen and "I Want You Back" by Jackson -5. Unfortunately you cannot download additional songs. For this, the game including microphone in a bundle is available very inexpensively.
- "Wii Karaoke U" gives you online access to a collection of over 1, 500 songs of different music styles. The offer is growing steadily and is expanded by diverse songs. Included are rock classics, current pop hits from the radio, but also exotic ones, such as anime songs, which are added by the Japanese provider Joysound.
- You can download the karaoke game for free on any Wii U. However, you need to purchase a subscription to access the song catalog. You can choose to purchase an access ticket for 1 hour, 2 hours, 24 hours or 30 days. The advantage is obvious: if you are planning a karaoke party, all you have to do is buy a ticket and not an expensive game.
- You can use "Wii Karaoke U" with almost any USB microphone, including that of the "SiNG Party" mentioned above. If you don't have a microphone, you can also use the microphone installed in the GamePad. But keep in mind that the sound quality is not the best here.
- In contrast to "SiNG Party", "Wii Karaoke U" is a more classic karaoke software than a party game. For example, you won't get real-time results like Sing Star. There are also fewer modes and no GamePad functions like SiNG Party.
Since the Wii U is downward compatible with older Wii games, you can also safely take advantage of the numerous games in the "We Sing" series, which cover different genre directions such as 80s or German hits. In another practical tip, we will show you the five best games in the Wii U eShop.
