Karaoke: Remove vocals from songs with Audacity
In addition to the song that you want to convert into a karaoke version, you also need an audio program. The free Audacity is ideal for this. Below in the picture gallery you can see all the steps again with screenshots.
- Open the song with Audacity. Usually you will see a stereo track here, i.e. two similar tracks one above the other.
- Now click on the file name on the far left of the file information and select "Disconnect stereo track".
- Now the left and right stereo tracks are divided into two separate tracks for the left and right channels. Double-click on one of them - the entire track should now be marked a little darker.
- Open the "Effect" menu and select "invert". This creates an area where certain parts of the two tracks erase - usually the vocals.
- Now open the properties for each track again by clicking on the name. The left or right channel is currently selected here. Click "Mono" on both tracks.
- Now you can play the song as a test. In many cases the vocals should now be gone and barely recognizable.
- However, this technique is not flawless. It assumes that certain recording techniques were used to record the song.
- Accordingly, it can happen that with some files not the vocals, but other parts are deleted.
Now you have to set up your PC for your karaoke party. In addition, a look at various karaoke programs is always worthwhile. If all this is too much effort for you, you can simply use Spotify for karaoke.
