Kaspersky: High CPU usage - you can do that
Kaspersky acts as security software and is intended to protect the PC from malware. If the program has a noticeably high CPU usage, you should do something about it. We'll show you how to fix it.
High CPU usage by Kaspersky: How to find out
First, you should find out the cause of the high workload. To do this, proceed as follows.
- Open the Windows Task Manager with the key combination [CTRL] + [Alt] + [Del]. Alternatively, you can right-click on the taskbar and select the "Task Manager" option.
- Click on the "Processes" tab and sort this list by size by clicking on "CPU".
- The process shown above is responsible for the high utilization. For more information, right-click on the entry and select "Open file path".
- Here you have the option to remove the corresponding program from the computer. If Kaspersky is the cause, we will show you below what you can do.
Kaspersky causes high CPU usage - adjust settings
If you were able to find Kaspersky as the cause, you should adjust the settings of the program.
- Start Kaspersky and click on "Settings" below.
- Go to the "Performance" section on the left and scroll down in the window until you get to the "Computer resources" item.
- Activate the checkboxes "Release resources for the operating system at startup", "Release resources for other programs" and "Run scan when computer is idle".
- Then remove the checkmark from "Search for programs that can hide traces of malware in the system. Kaspersky Internet Security 2015". You can then close the window.
- Finally, you should restart your PC.
