Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 settings
Before you can configure the antivirus, there are a few things you need to know:
- If you have never dealt with the Kaspersky settings, you will be introduced to the menu items on the Kaspersky Labs support page.
- By default, Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 is already set up very well, so you don't normally have to configure a lot.
- But if you want to get the most out of virus protection, we have summarized the best expert tips for you below.
Configure Kaspersky Internet Security - the basics
Even if you do not want to configure your Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 in detail, you should at least observe the following three points:
- You can protect Kaspersky's application settings with a password. To do this, in the settings under »Protection Center« - »General Protection Settings« (see picture) under "General Settings" check the box "Protect program settings with a password". Then you can set the password under "Settings ...".
- The Web Anti-Virus module allows you to block known dangerous websites directly so that they can no longer be accessed. To do this, navigate to "Web Anti-Virus" in the same tab and select the "Settings ..." button under "Security level" on the right. In the next window, switch to the "Web filter" tab and tick the "Block dangerous websites" button at the bottom.
- Go to "Advanced Settings" - "Settings for Detection of Objects and Exception Rules" (package icon). Navigate to "Network" in the list on the left. Set the item under "Check all network ports" to make the firewall more secure do.
Optional settings for Kaspersky virus protection
The following setting options are not mandatory, but are nevertheless recommended:
- By default, scanning the computer for viruses is set up properly. However, you can still optimize it a little. To do this, switch to "Examination of the computer" in the settings (to the right of "Protection Center"). Here you check the boxes "Run scan at computer idle" and "Run regular rootkit search". Below, select "Request action" so that when you connect removable media you can decide whether to scan them or not.
- In order to always be up-to-date, you should not only update Kaspersky Internet Security every day - as set by default. Therefore, click on the blue planet / ball in the settings at the top left to get to »Update«. Here you click in the middle on the button "Start mode ...". In the new window, set the point before "on schedule" and select "Frequency" as the frequency. You can set a period of several hours after "Execute all". An update every three hours should be enough.
- If you use online banking for money transfers, you should also enter the websites on which you have to log in under »Protection Center« - »Secure Payment Transactions«. To do this, click on the "Add" button, enter the website address and name and then click on "OK".
Expert tips for Kaspersky configuration
These settings are particularly recommended for advanced users:
- If you use an ad blocker like "AdBlock" in the browser, you can remove the checkmark under "Protection Center" - "Anti Banner" under "Activate anti-banner".
- You can individually set which notifications you will receive. To do this, go to »Advanced Settings« - »Messages«. Under "Report events" click on "Settings ...". Here you can set up the type of notification separately for each event.
- If you do not want to send feedback data to the Kaspersky Security Network, you can deactivate this under "Advanced settings" - "Feedback".
