No more RTL via DVB-T - alternatives to antenna reception
Since August 2013, TV programs such as RTL, RTL2 and VOX can no longer be received via a DVB-T antenna. However, switching to cable providers is not absolutely necessary: we will show you which websites you can stream RTL and Co. for free and what other options are available.
Free streaming portals as an alternative to DVB-T
The live streams from TV stations are bundled on various Internet platforms. However, you have to expect mediocre image quality from free providers.
- TV Spielfilm LIVE offers you over 50 live channels for free, including the popular German free TV channels such as ARD and ZDF. There is an extensive premium package for private broadcasters. You will receive the television program known from TV Spielfilm on the web and via app.
- TV-Kino puts together the streams from around 40 TV channels, including some international channels.
- Although Zattoo requires registration, there are 50 live TV channels but also a free TV program. In addition, streaming is also possible via apps on iPad / iPhone and Android devices. At Zattoo you can also purchase an HD resolution of the RTL program at a price of around 5 euros per month.
RTL & Co. on cable television
- A cable connection offers you a much better picture quality than online TV. Depending on the provider, this costs between 20 and 30 euros per month. There are many cable providers, for example Unitymedia, Kabel Deutschland, Kabel BW or Tele Columbus. Depending on the provider, HD reception from private channels such as RTL or PRO7 is often included in the basic fee.
- You need a cable connection socket, which is already available in most apartments. Depending on the cable provider, it may have to be converted. Then you only need an antenna cable to connect your TV to the cable connection socket.
Satellite television as an alternative to antennas
- For TV reception via satellite you need an antenna and a receiver. The costs here are around 100 euros. But then you also have a satellite dish on the wall of the house - some landlords prohibit this in the rental agreement.
We have summarized all information about cable and antenna television in this overview.
