No sound in Chrome: it can be because of it
If the Google Chrome browser no longer plays any sound, this can have various causes. In this practical tip, we will show you how to reactivate the sound in Chrome.
No sound in the Chrome browser - so you fix the problem
- First, you should check a few general things: Make sure the speakers are plugged into your PC and activated. Likewise, the sound on your PC must not be muted or extremely quiet.
- Run a video with sound in Chrome and click the speaker icon at the bottom right of the screen. Select "Mixer" and make sure that Chrome's sound is neither disabled nor set at a very low level. You can see whether the Chrome tab plays sound by looking at the loudspeaker symbol in the table bar.
- If that doesn't work, right-click on the speaker icon and select "Playback Devices". In the next window, right-click your speakers and then click "Configure Speakers". In the next step select "Stereo", click twice on "Next" and finish the configuration in the last point.
- If Chrome still does not play any sound after a restart, completely uninstall the browser from your PC and reinstall it. After the reinstallation, deactivate all unnecessary plugins and try again to play a video with sound. If the problem persists, please report it in detail on the Chrome product forum.
If you've reinstalled Chrome, you can reset the browser to its default settings. We will explain how this works in the next practical tip.
