There are various reasons for your iPhone to stop producing sound. We'll show you what it can be and how to fix the problems.
No sound on the iPhone - first steps for problem solving
iOS differentiates between "normal" audio playback and sounds. Therefore, first check whether the problems can be narrowed down:
- Open the "Music" app on your iPhone and start playing any song. Slide the volume control all the way to the right until full volume is reached.
- Listen to the music, but your iPhone remains silent when you call, which is an indication of incorrect sound settings. Stop the music and go back to the home screen.
- Now open the "Settings" and select the menu item "Tones". Approximately in the middle you will see the "Ringtones and advisory tones" option. If you move the slider all the way to the right, all tones are reproduced in an audible manner.

Is the phone muted?
Check that your iPhone is muted using the switch on the left edge of the iPhone.
- This applies if the switch is highlighted in orange.
- Use the two buttons "+" or "-" to change the volume.
Test the headphone mode
The problem could also be that your iPhone is still in headphone mode.
- Plug your headphones in and out several times.
- Then try playing through the speaker again.
Use the Control Center
In the Control Center you can not only adjust the volume, but also check whether your iPhone may be playing the sound via external speakers.
- Activate the "Airplane mode" there. This disconnects all connections to other devices.
- If the music was previously played via an external Bluetooth speaker or via Airplay, the connection is now broken and the internal speakers should work.
Is the speaker broken?
If the tips so far have not helped, you should check the speaker of your iPhone.
- To do this, connect headphones to your iPhone or connect them via Bluetooth.
- Play sound. If you hear a sound through the headphones, the speakers on your iPhone may no longer work.
Other solutions
Also try the following steps:
- If there is a serious error in the system, you can perform a soft reset or reset your iPhone via iTunes.
- If this also resolves the problem with the speaker of your non-iPhone, we recommend that you contact Apple Support.
