No hot water: this is how you get the rent reduction
As a tenant, you have the right to hot water. If this is not available, you can enforce a rent reduction. We have put together all the information for you.
All information about rent reduction due to lack of hot water
- If you rent an apartment, your landlord must ensure that you have hot water at your disposal.
- The water must warm up after ten seconds at the latest and after a flow of five liters of cold water at the latest.
- If you need longer to heat the water, you can enforce a rent reduction.
- To calculate the rent reduction, various factors have to be considered: Does the water only stay cold in the kitchen or also in the bathroom? Is the hot water available after a long time and how much flow is required for this? Is there only warm water at night or during the day?
- The rent reduction must always be set individually based on the extent of the impairment - you can consult individual assessments, but you should not apply them one to one to your case.
- Make your landlord aware of the lack. Only then can you reduce the rent.
- In the event of a rent reduction, we have prepared a sample letter for you, which you can download and send to your landlord.
