No access to Fritzbox - what to do?

If you cannot access the Internet with the Fritzbox and the router and user interface are no longer accessible, this can have various causes. Follow the steps below to resolve the problem.
Fritzbox: No access - you can do that
If after entering "fritz.box" in the address bar of the Internet browser, there is no access to the user interface, although the computer is connected to the Fritzbox via a network cable (LAN) or wirelessly (WLAN), you should use the full address of the user interface call.
- Some browsers such as Google Chrome often recognize addresses without "//" as a search query for Internet searches.
- If you call up the Internet browser on a computer that is connected to a Fritzbox, you should enter the entire address "//fritz.box".
- Then press the Enter key and check whether access to the user interface is working again.
No access to Fritzbox: restart
If nothing works anymore, the simplest solution often helps: a restart. When the Fritzbox is rebooted, the box settings are not deleted. The restart takes approximately two minutes. In the meantime, you cannot call up the user interface if this was previously possible.
- Simply disconnect the Fritzbox from the mains by pulling the plug out of the socket.
- After about ten seconds you can connect to the mains again.
- Wait until the power LED stops blinking and try to connect to the internet.
Reset Fritzbox
If you still cannot access your Fritzbox, you should reset the box. Perhaps an error has crept in during the configuration.
- If there is a small, pressed reset button on the back of your Fritzbox, you should press it with a pointed object for about five seconds. If you cannot find this button, you can also reset your Fritzbox by phone. To do this, attach a telephone to the Fritzbox.
- Lift the handset and wait until you hear a dial tone.
- Now enter the combination "# 991 * 15901590 *" into the phone.
- You will then hear a beep. Now hang up.
- After about two minutes, the Fritzbox should have reset.
No access to Fritzbox: Clear cache
If instead of the AVM user interface a blank, white or incomplete page appears, you should try to clear the cache of your internet browser.
- Google Chrome: In the menu under "Tools" you will find the entry "Clear browser data". Here you can clear the cache.
- Mozilla Firefox: Click on "Chronicle" and then clear the cache under "Clear Latest Chronicle" and "All".
- Internet Explorer: The cache (here: "Temporary Internet Files") can be found in Microsoft's browser under "Tools", "Internet Options" and "General". Now click on "Delete" and select the "Temporary Internet files".
- Safari: Click on "Safari" in the menu bar, "Settings" and then on "Show menu 'Developer' in the menu bar". Now click on "Developer" in this bar and then on "Clear cache".
DHCP client helps with access problems
It can also help to activate the "DHCP client" in Windows. DHCP enables automatic integration of a computer into an existing network without manual configuration. In Windows 8, activate the service as follows.
- First press the key combination Windows + X and click "Control Panel" in the context menu.
- Now navigate to "System and" Security "and then to" Administration ".
- Double-click on the "Services" entry and on "DHCP Client", which is displayed in the "Name" column.
- Select the "Automatic" start type and restart the computer.
- On Windows 7, Vista and XP, search for "DHCP Client" in the Start menu and double-click on the "DHCP Client" entry that is displayed in the "Name" column.
- Select the start type "Automatic" and click on "Start" and "Apply". Finally, restart the computer.
Restore access via emergency IP
If, for example, when configuring the Fritzbox, you have manually set the IP address, which you can also use to access the user interface, and have forgotten it by now, you can restore access to the router using the so-called "emergency IP".
$config[ads_text5] not found- In the delivery state, the default IP address of the Fritzbox is set to 192.168.178.254. In addition to this, the Fritzbox also has a second IP address, which the user cannot change via the user interface.
- The emergency IP is 169.254.1.1.
- If you want to access the user interface via this IP address, you have to change the IP address of your computer to 169.254.1.2.
- Simply use the following command line command: C: \ Windows \ system32> netsh interface ip set address name = "LAN connection" source = static addr = 169.254.1.2 mask = 255.255.255.0
No access to Fritzbox because of Avira
If instead of the web interface only a login screen and after the login a light yellow screen appears, you are most likely using Avira antivirus software. According to our research, the developers on both sides are already aware that Avira occasionally prevents access to the Fritzbox. Avira is therefore working on a patch and temporarily recommends the following workaround.
$config[ads_text6] not found- First open the Avira configuration menu.
- Navigate to "Internet Security", "Browser Protection" and "Search" and click on "Exceptions".
- Enter "fritz.box" as the URL and the IP address of the router and click on "add" for both.
- Apply the changes with "OK" and close the program. You should now have access to the AVM Fritz user interface again.
Tip: To better reach the Fritzbox, you can change the IP address.
