Control keynote presentation with iPhone
Presentations are usually made using Keynote on OS X. How you can control them with your iPhone during the performance is explained below.
Control keynote presentation with iPhone - preparation
In order for the presentation to be controlled properly using the iPhone, you should make a few preparations.
- In any case, you need an iPhone with Keynote 2.1 (or newer)
- If you have not yet installed this software version, you can do this via the app store.
- You should also update your iPhone to the latest iOS version before using it.
Control your keynote presentation with your iPhone - Keynote Remote
The control works via Keynote Remote.
- You need an Apple device with the presentation on it and your iPhone as the controlling device.
- You have to connect both components.
- This can be done wirelessly or using the Lightning connector via the Lightning to USB cable supplied.
- WLAN and Bluetooth are available as wireless solutions.
- Enable WiFi on both devices to connect over the Internet and make sure both devices are connected to the same network.
- Then open the Keynote presentation on the device that you want to view the presentation.
- Then click on "Tools" in the toolbar and then on "Presentation Tools".
- Then select "Allow remote control" and then switch on "Activate remote controls".
- Then switch to the iPhone you want to use as a remote control. There you have to open the Keynote app.
- Within the app, tap the Keynote remote icon on the presentation manager toolbar. You can open this again by clicking on "Presentations" in the toolbar.
- If this is the first time you are connecting to this device using Keynote Remote, just tap "Continue" on your iPhone. Otherwise, go to "Devices" and "Add device".
- Then switch back to the device that shows the presentation and tap "Connect" next to the name of the device in the "Allow remote control" menu.
- A four-digit code should appear on both devices after the successful connection. If the two match, tap "Confirm".
- On the device you want to view the presentation, you can now tap Done to return to the presentation.
- On the control device, tap on "Demonstrate" and can now, as usual, start the presentation using the iPhone.
- Swipe left or right to go to the next slide.
- You can use the "Layout" icon to access further layout options.
- Tap the close icon or swipe down with two fingers to end the presentation.
Control your keynote presentation with your iPhone - Bluetooth
As described above, as an alternative to connecting via WLAN, you can also connect the controlling and displaying device via Bluetooth.
- However, this is only possible from iOS to iOS device, not to or with a Mac. In addition, both devices should have at least iOS 8.
- At the same time, there may be some asynchrony between the display and control device, and it may also take longer for the slides to appear in Keynote Remote.
