Children's food: they are really that healthy
Cornflakes, bear sausage, children's fruit juice drinks and chocolate bars are just a few examples of children's food. These are often advertised as child-like, sold with extra stickers and are beautifully colorful. However, they offer no advantage for the nutrition of your offspring. However, they are often unhealthy and overpriced!
Children's food - only apparently healthy and good for your child
You can find more and more food especially for children in the shop. These are often advertised separately, especially for the little ones. In this way, advertising is stored with children's songs and the target group is addressed directly. The parents are promised additional vitamins and minerals. But there is little good behind this advertising:
- Children's foods often contain a lot of sugar, unhealthy saturated fats and additives. In addition, they are often more expensive than the ordinary product.
- Many products advertise additional vitamins and minerals. However, these are superfluous if your child eats a healthy diet. Some of these substances are even overdosed and can even be dangerous in the worst case.
- Drinks such as lemonades, fruit juices or isodrinks often contain too much sugar and sometimes too much citric acid. This increases the occurrence of tooth decay.
- Meat and sausages especially for children have no advantage for the little ones. The products may look very cute, but are often just more expensive.
- Finished products, such as canned dishes or frozen pizza, which are specially aimed at children should not be included in the daily menu. These also often contain a lot of sugar, fat, salt and unhealthy additives.
Healthy alternatives to children's food
Children's food should not be a standard for your child, at most an exception as a candy or small snack in between. So you save money and feed your offspring in a balanced way. Healthy alternatives instead of the well-known children's food are for example:
- Homemade fruit juice spritzers (1 part juice and 3 parts water), unsweetened tea and lots of water. Children should not always drink sweetened drinks. If your offspring constantly drink sweet lemonades and the like, they will get used to the sweetness.
- Instead of yoghurt with colored pearls and lots of sugar, offer your child natural yoghurt, curd cheese or thick milk with fresh fruit.
- Cornflakes are not a healthy breakfast. A roll with a little jam or muesli with fruit are also sweet and tasty, but much healthier.
- Candy fortified with vitamins should never be a source of nutrients. They are and remain sweets and should be an exception! Make sure that your child always eats a lot of fruit and vegetables.
