Kindle: Borrow books - how it works
You can not only buy books through Amazon's Kindle Shop, you can also borrow them for free. In this practical tip, we explain what you need and how to do it.
Under what conditions can you borrow Kindle books?
To borrow books for free you need:
- a Kindle device like the Kindle Paperwhite or Fire. It does not work via the Kindle app for Android, iOS and the PC.
- a prime account on Amazon.
This is how the Kindle lending library works
- You can borrow a book every month for free.
- There is no return period: you can keep the title on your Kindle for as long as you like.
- However, you cannot borrow the next book until you have returned the previous one. If you want to borrow a new book, you will automatically be asked to return the last one. With this note, just click on "Return".
