Kindle: delete books - how it works
If you no longer want to have books on Kindle or even no longer at all, you can delete them. We show you how it works on Kindle Paperwhite and in the app for iPhone / iPad, Android and Mac as well as in the Amazon account.
Delete books from Kindle reader
The following instructions are for a first generation Kindle Paperwhite:
- Switch on your Kindle and select "Device" in the library overview at the top left.
- Find the book you want and press it until a new window opens.
- Click "Remove from Device" if it is a book from the Kindle Store. You can download the e-book to your device at any time via the "Cloud" tab.
- For example, if it is an e-book that you have caliber-converted and transferred to Kindle, press "Delete this book". Warning: It will then be completely deleted and is not available in the Amazon cloud.
Remove e-books from the Kindle app
Similarly, delete books from the Kindle app:
- Open the Kindle app and switch to the "Device" tab below.
- Long press on the desired book and then select "Remove from device".
- On Mac, go to the Downloaded Items tab on the left and click the book with two fingers. Then select "Delete from device".
Delete Kindle books from the Amazon Cloud
Note: The following instructions describe how to permanently delete books purchased from Amazon from the cloud. They are then no longer available to you. Follow the steps only if you no longer want to use an e-book.
- Open the following link and log in with your Amazon account.
- Find the book you want and click "Actions" on the right.
- Select "Remove from library" here.
- If you confirm the following query with "Yes", the book will be permanently deleted.
