Kindle: display defective - what to do?
If you think that your Kindle reader's display is defective, you don't have to lose everything right away. We give you tips for first aid and tell you what to do when there is really nothing to be saved.
Kindle display broken or just frozen?
You can also repair the display damage yourself. If your ebook reader display is just frozen, the following measures usually help:
- Hold down the on / off switch for 40 seconds.
- After the time has elapsed, release the switch and then press it again immediately.
- If you are lucky, your problem will be solved and you will see the start screen on your Kindle's display.
- If you have dropped the ebook and the display is fragmented, you can try to get an inexpensive replacement display - for example, on eBay - and then replace the display yourself with a little skill.
- You should consider the extent to which a professional repair is still worthwhile or whether a new Kindle is ultimately cheaper at the same time.
The Amazon warranty for the defective Kindle
- The warranty period for Kindle devices is usually one year.
- If you complain about the device within the first 30 days after receipt, you can send your defective Kindle back to Amazon free of charge via the online return center. Simply log in to your Amazon account and follow the individual steps.
- If the defect only occurred later, you can no longer submit the device to the online return center at Amazon. The corresponding address in this case is: Amazon Return Center Amazonstr. 1 36251 Bad Hersfeld. The postage costs incurred in this case will be reimbursed by Amazon later, provided your complaint is justified.
- With the package, you submit a description of the error and send in all the associated accessories in addition to the Ebook Reader. Any accessories purchased separately, such as a memory card, should be removed before sending. In addition, you should, of course, delete all personal data as far as possible. Amazon recommends the "insured package" option as the shipping method.
- If you have any questions in advance, you should contact Amazon Customer Service before submitting the device. You can reach customer service by phone Monday to Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to midnight.
If you have solved your problem with the defective display, you should perhaps activate the parental controls on your Kindle to prevent the next catastrophes.
