Kindle flickers when turning the page - this will fix the problem
If a Kindle flickers when turning the page, there is no hardware or software error. We show you how to reduce flickering.
Kindle flickers: no hardware failure
The "flickering" is not software or hardware failure. It is even wanted:
- The built-in display usually only changes the necessary pixels every time you switch pages to save electricity and quickly switch sides.
- However, if two pages are very different or some pixels cannot be changed on the first try, the Kindle displays a completely black picture for a brief moment. You will notice a flickering.
- All pixels are "reset" and the next page can be displayed.
- This also prevents so-called "ghosting": if the display reset is switched off, old text can "shimmer through" between the lines. This is prevented by the flickering.
Reduce Kindle's flickering
If the flickering bothers you too much, you can at least reduce it. However, it cannot be completely switched off and is not possible with any ereader with an ink display.
- Start your Kindle and go to the main menu.
- Open the settings by pressing the menu button.
- Switch to the fourth page and navigate to the item "Refresh page".
- You must now deactivate this option.
- Now the Kindle only resets its display when it is really necessary. This usually happens every four to twelve pages. However, if two pages differ too much (pictures or shifted text) it will still flicker every time you turn the page.
