Kindle FreeTime: set up and read
In addition to the Kindle Fire, the Paperwhite also supports the "Kindle Freetime" child protection. We'll show you how to set up the feature.
Set up Child Protection FreeTime on Kindle
With Kindle FreeTime you block access to the Kindle shop, browser and Wikipedia. Children can also only read the books that you provide them with in a personalized extra profile. How to activate child protection:
- On the Kindle homepage, tap the FreeTime icon in the lower right. Alternatively, tap on the menu icon and select "Kindle FreeTime".
- Tap the "Get started" option.
- Now you can set up and confirm a password. If you have already set a password, you must enter it now.
- Then set up a profile for your child: To do this, enter the name, date of birth and gender and tap on "Next". You can also upload a photo of your child.
- A list of all of your books will appear in your Kindle library.
- Check the box next to an eBook to add it to your child's library. Your child can then call up the marked books later. Tap "OK" to apply the changes.
- Now you can set a daily limit: Tap the right or left arrow to set how many minutes your child can read each day.
- If you do not want to use the function, press and hold the left arrow until you see an off switch.
- Tap "Done" to save your settings and create the profile.
- With the "Create more profiles" option you can set up additional profiles for your children at any time. The maximum number is currently four different accounts.
- To read with FreeTime, simply open the respective profile.
